PENCIL ARTWORK OF MESUT OZIL

This artwork wasn’t compulsory but necessary, many self trained artists hope and pray they improve, but improvement isn’t something that comes naturally, it takes a lot of hard work and ah yes! Practice!!! (Heaven helps those who help themselves).
No matter how busy you may be, always make time for your budding talent, I started with a grid system as usual with a mechanical 2B grade pencil, then used the same pencil for the whole outline, shaded darkest areas with 8B pencil, lightest areas with 2H pencil and the mid-tones with 5B pencil. Blended with tortillions and tissue paper. Didn’t use any kneaded eraser, creating the rough stretches on the jersey was seriously stressful, note that there is no right or wrongway to draw; it’s all about the final result.

SELF-IMPROVEMENT

(Sighs) It’s incredibly tough, stressful and tiring to keep up a blog. Can’t say I’m totally new to this, started this and I will see it through. (Winks). Not been working my own artworks recently, been busy with training how to make my art more realistic (isn’t that what we are all about?) Life is not so easy for any self-trained artist, there’s always that inner darkness of fear whispering to your ears every other day…, “You will never improve”. This occurs most especially after sighting the works of other artists, don’t ever compare yourself or work with any artist, (re-phrase that…, ANYONE!).  (Frustration is an unavoidable ally for greatness and success, embrace it). You can always let other artists inspire you.

MUCH ADO ABOUT WHITE HAIRS

(Was down with a temporary illness lately, all good now #winks) This is not a funny issue.., this literarily drives me and I’m pretty sure, a whole load of self-trained artists insane. How in the world will one be making hair on a paper in a mode that isn’t black? Till date it’s still kind of baffling. Any time I search for reference pictures, I make sure to avoid pictures involving white hairs, especially those with white beards.

PENCIL ART ASSESSMENT

To truly be great and awesome as a self-trained artist, I assess myself every month by setting an exam involving drawing from a reference photograph. Such a photograph must contain details of art that I haven’t yet encountered or that scares me. Photographs that would naturally make me say “Hell no! I can’t draw this without it looking wacky”. So, It was Halloween season and I saw this really nice picture, used 8b pencil grade on A3 paper.

"PENCIL PORTRAIT OF MUHAMMADU BUHARI"

For the first time ever, I’m so glad about who became the current president of my country. Finally, light at the end of the tunnel, after a 16 year rule of the “you know who” party. Things have never looked so good; the election went smoothly and transparently. Felt like I owed the great retired military strategist a portrait. (If only he could see this). Used a 4b pencil on an A3 paper, took about two weeks.

CHARCOAL PENCIL ART REPLICA OF "MONA-LISA" PORTRAIT

I never ever thought the day would come whereby I would have to make a replica of a great artist’s artwork, not to mention the all-time greatest painting made by Leonardo Da Vinci. I was working in my art studio and then I overheard my step-grandma reminiscing her visit to France, Louvre museum to be exact. How she wished she could purchase the painting (like hell would that ever happen). So, I thought about making her a replica, monochrome form of course (it’s still killing me that I haven’t learnt painting yet). I got to work, took me a month due to my very busy schedule of teaching and working for my NYSC state magazine group, Ibadan, Nigeria. Used a combo of pencils and charcoal pencils, eventually I finished. Then my granddad saw how good it was and claimed it for himself (The Joker’s chuckle). Now I have to make another one, (sigh).

"DRAWING AS A WHOLE"

Hello art fans! This marks the inception of my website, dedicated solely to art. It will consist of weekly updates or posts about my artworks, inspiration and tips on drawing for professionals or beginners. It’s no easy feat to be self-taught at anything, takes dedication and discipline. Most especially when what you studied in school was a clear contrast to your hidden talent. Let’s face the fact that monochrome art is simply amazing, don’t get me wrong though, painting is also awesome. Would get into that as time progresses. Sites like YouTube and Google are quite invaluable to this generation there are a whole lot of cool stuffs to learn in forms of videos, eBooks, and audio notes. Seize the opportunity.

ABOUT

The basis of the site consists of art promotion, expression of Kenny Bamgbose's creative mind to the world and to relate with other people across the continent.
